Chippo Golf to Sponsor Fifth Annual City Tour Championship at Pinehurst

Chippo Golf – the revolutionary chipping game for the backyard, beach, tailgate, office and/or clubhouse – is an official sponsor of the fifth annual City Tour Championship, held August 30 through September 1 at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina.

The City Tour, presented by Nextgengolf, runs team-based golf tournaments for amateurs ages 21 and up in major cities throughout the year. The Tour’s championship is an invite-only event, and golfers can qualify as a team, pair or individual. Interested players sign up for a tournament in their city and win either the scramble or best ball division while top pairs from local tournaments will also receive bids. Players can also qualify for a limited wild card entry depending on their national ranking.

Chippo, also described as the “glorious lovechild of cornhole and golf,” consists of two target boards with two heavy-duty chipping mats and six high-density foam balls from almostGolf. During championship weekend, attendees can compete in a ‘Chippo Challenge’ – where rather than playing the game’s traditional format, participants look to earn as many points possible with the six chips allowed. The top three scores of the challenge earn the Chippo Bundle (Chippo, carry case and extra balls), Chippo Hippo headcover, “Chip It and Sip It” Chippo T-shirt and Koozies.

“The City Tour concept is something we completely support, as it gets golfers of all ages and demographics out to experience tournament golf at outstanding venues like Pinehurst,” says Brendan McAuley, CEO of Chippo Golf. “We designed Chippo to be a perfect complement to events like The City Tour, as it lends itself to fun competitions within the larger scope of tournament week and is a great way to bond or meet new people who share a passion for golf.”

Traditionally, Chippo is set up with two players per team with the boards separated 15-feet away, facing each other. Players earn one point for hitting the board on the fly, three points for draining a shot in the center hole and five points for sending the ball into a top corner hole. Double points can also be earned if the chip bounces off the chipping mat prior.

“Nextgengolf is excited and thankful to welcome the team from Chippo to the City Tour Championship,” says Kris Hart, Senior Director of Nextgengolf. “We know players will enjoy participating in the Chippo Challenge, Friday night, and experience this awesome game firsthand.”

While at Pinehurst, participants can also compete in a par-3 course challenge at The Cradle Short Course, a putting competition and attend several outside events. Players staying on-site can enjoy access to the pool, fitness facility and other amenities, as well as free transportation on the Pinehurst shuttle across the entire Resort including, the newly built brewery and practice facilities.
